Marriott created the Marriott Bonvoy rewards program for people who want to benefit from staying at one of their hotels. The group comprises 30 brands divided into categories such as Luxury, Premium and Select. With a presence in 139 countries and territories, Marriott International has more than 8,000 hotels in its portfolio.
Members can earn Marriott Bonvoy points in a variety of ways. This includes staying at Marriott hotels, booking through Marriott Bonvoy Tours & Activities, spending at partner retailers and using Marriott Bonvoy co-branded credit cards.
Your options for redeeming Marriott Bonvoy points include using hotel stays, experiences and gift cards. You may also choose to transfer Marriott Points to the program's partner airlines.
The value of Marriott Points depends on the chosen redemption method. In most cases, the value of a Marriott Bonvoy point varies between 0.7 cents and 0.9 cents. However, in some cases, a better or worse score can be obtained. For example, transferring your points to a partner airline can be good value, but not always.
Effective March 2022, the Marriott Point redemption schedule will no longer apply and the program will now follow a dynamic award night pricing model. While the value of Marriott Points has declined in recent years due to rising prices on the reward tier table, the discontinuation of their use has resulted in a further drop in redemption rates at many hotels.
If you plan on using your points towards a free night, you'll need anywhere from 5,000 to 100,000 points, depending on the property and dates selected.
The Marriott Bonvoy rewards program has six levels of membership, and moving up the ladder offers a variety of benefits. Members earn bonus points beyond Silver Elite status.
Compared to other hotel loyalty programs, the value Marriott Bonvoy rewards program members receive is average.

The value of a Marriott Bonvoy point typically ranges from 0.7 cents to 0.9 cents.
You may need anywhere from 5,000 to 100,000 points for a reward night.
You can earn bonus points when moving from one membership level to another.
How much are Marriott Bonvoy points worth?
The value of Marriott points depends on how you redeem them. If you redeem them for hotel stays, the value of your points will depend on the selected hotel category and the intended stay at the property. While a Bonvoy point is normally worth between 0.7 cents and 0.9 cents, in some cases it can go as low as 0.5 cents or as high as 2 cents. Typically, you'll get the best value for your points when you redeem them for stays at top-tier Marriott properties.
In March 2022, the program stopped using its paytable and switched to dynamic pricing. As a result, award nights will no longer be consistently offered when redeeming points. Instead, the number of Marriott points you need for a free night is now based on actual room rates, which vary based on a number of factors. So when room rates are high, you can expect to lose more points, although the reverse is also true.

How many Marriott points for a free night?
Your travel dates and the hotel you choose will affect the number of points you need for a free night. For example, a free night at Courtyard Bilaspur in India in the first week of March would require 6,000 points. If you book the same hotel for one night on New Year's Eve, you'll need 6,500 points.
If you check into The Ritz-Carlton NoMad in New York City on New Year's Eve, a free night will cost you 104,000 points. In the first week of March you need 98,000 points.
Marriott's points redemption table gives an indication of how many points you might need for a free night at different hotels and at different times, although it is now out of date. Alternatively, you can useSite da Marriottto determine how many points you need for a free night based on Marriott's dynamic pricing system.
According to the program's defunct redemption table, you need about 5,000 points for a free night at a category 1 hotel during off-peak hours. That would increase to around 7,500 points at standard rates and around 10,000 points at premium rates. At the other end of the spectrum, you need around 70,000 points for a free night at a category 8 hotel at low rates, around 85,000 points with standard rates and around 100,000 points when booking premium rates.
A free night in a category 4 hotel can cost around 20,000, 25,000 or 30,000 points, depending on when you travel. At Category 5 hotels, you can expect to earn around 30,000, 35,000, or 40,000 Marriott Points for a free night.
How often do Marriott Bonvoy points change?
The value of Marriott Bonvoy points has declined in recent years. In 2019, the average value of a Bonvoy point hovered around 1.2 cents. For 2020, it's down to around 0.9 cents to 1 cent per point. The value you receive for your points changed even more after the program stopped using its rewards table and switched to dynamic pricing. Beginning in 2023, the Low Season and Low Season program redemption rate caps will no longer apply, and the amount you will receive for your points will depend solely on the applicable rates.
Comparison of Marriott Bonvoy points and other hotels
The Marriott Bonvoy rewards program manages to offer better value than some hotel loyalty programs, but there are others that do better. However, given its widespread global presence, Marriott manages to offer options for almost every type of traveler. There are other aspects to consider as well.
Value of Marriott Bonvoy Points
When you participate in the Marriott Bonvoy rewards program, your points are worth an average of 0.7 cents to 0.9 cents per point. But because of its massive global presence, members have more options, including a significant selection of luxury properties, than any other hotel loyalty program when it comes to deciding where to stay. When redeeming points for four-night stays, you'll receive one free night.

marriott shopping points
Marriott Points are purchasable and the standard price per 1,000 points is $12.50. The number of points you wish to purchase does not affect the price you pay per point. For example, if you buy 100,000 points, you will have to pay $1,250. That means you pay 1.25 cents per point.
As the average amount you get when redeeming your points is well below what you have to pay for them, they're only worth buying if you need to cover a shortfall while claiming a valuable reward.
Periodically, the program offers the opportunity to purchase points at reduced prices. These discounts can range from 25% to 50%, providing better value for money. However, please note that you may need to purchase a minimum number of points to qualify for the offer.
The maximum number of Marriott Points you can purchase or receive as a gift during a calendar year is 100,000. However, you can purchase up to 100,000 more points per year when you book through marriott.com.

the programsbreakthrough pointsThis feature allows you to book an award stay even if you don't currently have enough points. In this case, you must make up the points deficit 60 days after booking or 14 days before arrival (whichever comes first). If you use this feature, you must make your reservation at least 30 days prior to your arrival date.
In addition to Free Night Awards, you can use the Advance Points option toCash rewards + points, PointSavers Rewards and Upgrade Rewards. These reservations only guarantee room availability. You will find the exact number of points required for the booking in the confirmation step.
A special benefit of the Marriott Bonvoy program is that you redeem your pointsbook five consecutive nights, win the night with the lowest point free. Therefore, if you use points to book a stay of 10 consecutive nights, you will only be charged for eight nights. The program considers nights with a lower cost of points as free nights.
The program had suspended points expiration until December 31, 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The policy of forfeiting your points if there is no qualifying activity on your account for 24 months is back in effect in 2023.
If you don't want to use your Marriott Bonvoy points for free nights, there are other ways to redeem them.
Shop with Marriott Bonvoy points
you have several optionswhen it comes to using your Marriott Bonvoy points to shop. Firstly, you can redeem points for products in different categories like electronics, home and garden, fashion, health and subscriptions.
Using your points to shop at Marriott Bonvoy boutiques is an option. Brands to choose from include Courtyard by Marriott, JW Marriott, Sheraton, St. Regis, The Ritz-Carlton and Westin.
If you use them to shop, your Marriott points do not have a fixed value, so you must determine on a case-by-case basis by comparing the price of a product to the point value. In most cases, using your points to make purchases will result in a below average value.
This program also allows you to use your points to get gift cards. The value of your Marriott Bonvoy points is generally based on the value of the gift card. For example, you can get a $25 Adidas Gift Card for 10,000 points, and you need 30,000 points to get a $100 Adidas Gift Card. In this case, the value of each point is 0.25 cents and 0.33 cents, respectively. You can get a $250 Delta Gift Card for 65,000 points, worth 0.38 cents per point.
Convert points to miles
it's also relatively easyTransfer Marriott Pointsto one of the loyalty programs of the airlines associated with the program. In most cases, you'll get a 3:1 transfer ratio, which means you'll earn one mile for three Marriott Points. If you transfer 60,000 points, Marriott Bonvoy adds a bonus of 5,000 miles, although this does not apply to transfers to Delta SkyMiles, American Airlines AAdvantage, Avianca LifeMiles and Korean Air SKYPASS. You can also transfer between 3,000 and 240,000 points per day.
Transferring your Marriott points to a partner airline can be just as good value as using them for hotel stays. However, you may want to consider this redemption method if you have a specific airline award in mind and want to make up the mileage shortfall required to redeem it.
Marriott Bonvoy's major transportation partners include Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, United Airlines MileagePlus, American Airlines AAdvantage, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and Etihad Guest. United Airlines offers an additional 10% bonus when you transfer points from Marriott Bonvoy to United MileagePlus, which can further increase your points.
Marriott Bonvoy members can also transfer their points into the Rakuten Rewards program. However, due to the low 3:1 gear ratio, don't expect to get a good deal for your points.
