Is it worth it to buy Marriott points?
When you're trying to decide if it's worth buying points, it depends on how many you buy and what you're redeeming them for.
Termination of your account
If you're buying a few thousand points to top up your account, it's usually always worth buying points, assuming you have a solid redemption prospect.
For example, if you have 118,000 Marriott Bonvoy points and are 2,000 points short of the 5-night hotel stay you were looking for, you can purchase those points as it is the fastest way to top up your balance.
Wait for the rates to be publishedMarriott credit cardsor trying to earn points in any other way can take a while. It is possible that the cost of the reward will increase and end up costing you more points.
Buy large amounts of points
Buying large amounts of points is generally frowned upon, but there are times when you can use this route more than paying cash.
As long as you redeem your points for more than you paid for them AND there's enough room to save, it may be worth buying points.
As a general rule, large amounts of points should only be purchased during Marriott point purchase promotions.
It is much easier to buy points for 0.8-0.9 cents than to buy points at the standard rate of 1.25 cents. That's because it's easy to find Marriott redemptions that offer 1 to 1.25 cents of value, while finding more value is significantly more difficult.
Thursday night free
This is where purchasing Points offers the most value, especially when they are on sale. If you have elite status with Marriott, you can book a reward stay of 5 consecutive nights for the price of 4 nights.
With you you can get Marriott's lowest Silver statusanyMarriott credit card with annual fee includedMarriott Bonvoy Bold® Credit Card. And you don't have to use a Marriott credit card to pay, it just needs to be linked to your account.
This increases the value of your points by saving you the cost of an entire night. For example, the Fairfield Inn & Suite Clearwater is a great hotel (that I've stayed at) not far from Clearwater Beach, Florida.
The cost for a 5-night stay is 68,500 points and the cost per night is $168 after taxes. So a full stay would cost 68,500 points or $840.

This redemption would give your points a value of 1.22 cents each, which means that buying points for the full cost of the redemption would be a low value.
Now, if points were on sale for, say, 0.85 cents each, you could buy 69,000 Marriott Bonvoy points (should be 1,000 point increments) for $582.25. That's allsignificantpay less than $840.
"What about the points you would earn by paying cash?"
A Marriott Titanium member using a Marriott Bonvoy credit card with 6X points earns a maximum of 23.5 points for every dollar spent on the reservation. So you would earn about 13,600 points.
At an average value of 0.7 cents per point, you're looking at $95 in points vs. $258 in point savings per purchase. Even if you qualified Marriott Bonvoy points with a value greater than 1 cent, you'd still be saving on point purchases.

last note
As a reminder, I don't recommend buying points just to buy them, whether they're on sale or not. I also do not recommend buying them like thisaspectlike a good deal.
You must ensure that you have a redemption line before purchasing points. Do the math and make sure that buying points will benefit you!
