The latest information from Ford has officially revealed that the production of the Ford Explorer EV has been postponed to 2024. The announcement of the delay was made because Ford had to double the production of the Mustang Mach-E electric crossover to meet customer demand.
During production of the Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator EV SUV models, the best way to achieve triple production was to acquire a second factory with the Mustang Mach-E. Especially those that produce Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator EV SUV models.
The delay also affected the long-awaited F-150 Lightning.
Automotive News intercepted a memo sent to Ford suppliers announcing the delay, including original mid-2023 launch dates for two new Ford electric SUVs, which would push production back to December 2024 by 18 months.
In addition, Ford also announced that it will no longer produce two electric SUV models at its plant in Cuatitlan, Mexico. However, the location of the last manufacturer in the production of Explorer and Aviator EV is not yet known.

Robust and mysterious new Ford Explorer 2024, are the words that fit right now. We speculate that this may borrow from Ford's "FX4" nomenclature used on Ranger and F-Series pickups, but now that we've seen the exterior badging and seat embroidery, it looks like the "Timberline" is indeed a winner.
This is just one of many names Ford sought to protect in a flurry of trademark filings in 2018 and 2019 that also established now-famous nameplates like "Maverick", "Badlands" and "Outer Banks". is one of the few. track for a timely introduction to the 2022 model year.
Based on what we see here, we expect this to be the dominant tire and wheel package. While Ford may call for service for the 4x4 Explorer variant, we're not talking about a Raptor-style package here. As for the doohickey that looks like "Jeopardy!" buzzer or lavalier microphone covering the passenger seat? Well, actually, it's an important piece of test equipment used by the test pilot to catch problems with the prototype as they occur.
We said before that we didn't expect to have to wait long to find out more about this new Explorer. Hopefully the upcoming Chicago Auto Show will be the venue for its opening, but given the current state of such gatherings, we're inclined to think that Ford will find a way to showcase the Timberline on its turf.
2024 Ford Explorer specs
Ford offers 7 trim levels for the non-hybrid Explorer. The biggest difference is in the aesthetics of the car. The basic version, while adequate for most applications, lacks many modern features.
The higher the trim level, the luxury quotient is sure to increase significantly, as will the price. It could be in the $34,000 price range for the base variant, while the price for Timberline's new top-of-the-line trim is yet to be announced.
We recommend the XLT version for Explorer. It strikes the perfect balance between luxury and performance. High-end finishes, while more aesthetically pleasing, don't match the premium prices.
If you want to get the most out of the Explorer, you can opt for the top-of-the-line Timberline version, which will deliver the highest level of luxury expected from this segment, as well as off-road adventure capability.
Ford Explorer Timberline 2024
The 2024 Ford Explorer Timberline is a slightly more off-road variant of the Ford family crossover. There's a little more ground clearance, a little more traction and a little more underbody protection.
The Ford Explorer Timberline also has grille mounted LED fog lights which gives me a mild heart attack every time I see them in the rear view mirror as they look so much like low profile grille mounted LED headlights.
Ford says the Timberline is the seventh new off-road model the company has released since 2019, along with the two-door and four-door Bronco, Bronco Sport, new F-150 Raptor and Tremor Ranger variants, F-150 and Super Duty .
But it's no Explorer Raptor: The Timberline's specs include 0.8-inch rise with beefy Explorer Police Interceptor shocks, Bridgestone Dueler 265/65 all-terrain tires on unique 18-inch wheels, and unique front and rear panels for greater ground clearance. .
It also gets a Torsen non-slip rear differential, mated to standard Explorer four-wheel drive, as well as a seven-mode Terrain Management System and Hill Descent Control.
Steel covers protect the powertrain, which consists of a standard 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine producing 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, mated to a Ford 10-speed automatic transmission. The Timberline comes standard with a Class III hitch and has a towing capacity of up to 5,300 lbs.
Cosmetic changes to the Timberline include the new Forged Green paint you see here, as well as blackout stripes around the headlamps and badging, and red tow hitches and dash accents very similar to what you see on the Subaru Forester Sport. Inside, the seats feature the Timberline logo and contrasting red stitching.
The Explorer Timberline promises the easy off-road driving that Ford has come to expect from customers, especially at a time when more and more people are turning to the great outdoors as a safer form of recreation.
But I still instinctively checked my speed every time I saw those fog lights looming behind me. The 2024 Ford Explorer Timberline is expected to be available to order from showrooms next summer.
2024 Ford Explorer ST
2024 Ford Explorer ST 400-HP Fast, exciting and unexpected, Ford takes its new Explorer on a rear-wheel drive platform, then powers it with a powerful V-6 engine and all-wheel drive.
The 2024 Ford Explorer ST pictured here can hit 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, which is just a tenth of a second faster than the 1991 GMC Typhoon. How many of us would have thought at the start of the grunge decade that GMC actually did? really scandalous a harbinger of the future? We find zero.
At the time, the Typhoon and its collector sibling, the Syclone, were a strange and unexpected anomaly. But look around now: the market is full of powerful SUVs. Like the Typhoon, the Explorer ST is powered by a turbocharged V-6 engine.
Both have four-wheel drive. Both eschew chrome and glitter and at least try to look a little menacing. A note to the Ford communications team, who are no doubt thrilled that we compare their new product to a nearly 30-year-old GM product: Don't worry.
The Ford Explorer ST doesn't really look like the GMC Typhoon. First, Ford was not named after a hurricane that could cause widespread disaster and death. It doesn't even have its own name, just its own suffix: ST.
And before we get to all the independent music store snobs to apply this tip to three SUV lines, let's remember that before Ford started hitting SUVs, the total number of STs in American history was just two cars: the Focus ST, which was an admirable effort. and the Fiesta ST, which lives up to its name as a party on wheels, a splendid wave as precious as a Tuesday afternoon hangover.
In addition, compared to the Typhoon, the Explorer ST has twice as many doors, two more seats, two fewer drum brakes, six more forward gears, a smaller drive axle and larger five-inch wheels.
According to our measurements, that would be another 11 kilometers for every liter of fuel used. And the cheeky Explorer ST will give you a butt rub (front passenger only).
The Ford Explorer ST has stiffer springs (10% more at the front and 8% at the rear), tuned dampers and thicker anti-roll bars. Ford has also refined the electric steering to give it a heavier feel.
And the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine, actually the same engine used in some Lincoln models, produces 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. The Platinum uses a 365hp version of this engine, while the XLT Explorers make do with a 300hp 2.3-litre in-line four-cylinder turbo engine. The Limited model uses a four-cylinder or a 318-hp hybrid based on the 3.3-liter V-6.
The Explorer ST engine may be half a liter smaller than the old, optional twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter Explorer V-6 engine, but it delivers 35 more horsepower and 65 more lb-ft of torque. Predictably later, this new vehicle is faster. And more importantly, it feels much faster on the road.
Once the 10-speed automatic selects the ideal gear, this platform moves with surprising power. That transmission, the only one available on the new Explorer, was scary at times, changing gears multiple times when there was only one gear.
We found that changing the drive mode to Sport helped smooth out the transmission's startup and sharpen throttle response on the sensitive side only. Our only other reservation about the powertrain is that the sound of the engine is less a mechanical symphony than a groan.
Stiffer suspensions and summer tires paid off on the test track. The ST stops from 70 mph in 161 feet. Most three-row SUVs require at least 10 extra feet to complete.
The A ST circled our 300ft skid gear with 0.86g of side grip. It's a more unsportsmanlike three-row SUV, of course, and uses all-season tires that tend to halve the 0.80 numbers, but we'd expect more from a vehicle with summer tires mounted on a relatively stiff suspension.
On the road, the ST's handling is undeniable, but there's no doubt that the vehicle's sporty character and large wheels make it heavy. Tire grip, suspension and solid construction aside, the Explorer ST isn't as coordinated as we'd like.
The brakes on our test car worked and it took a lot more work to stop smoothly and consistently than it would have otherwise. The steering is heavy thanks to the thick wheels, but it feels so artificial. There is no accumulation of power, which in the best sports machines transfers traction to the driver.
Combine that with a transmission that likes to let the engine rest at every turn, requiring lots of downshifts and turbo boosts to get it going, and the Explorer ST is no natural performance vehicle. Instead, it's a regular vehicle with extra traction and lots of power.
This general overhaul of a normal vehicle still has a lot to like. The Explorer's previous interior was a sad affair. Her high waist made us feel like we were sitting in a giant tub made of cheap black plastic panels.
Although this example is still fully maintained in a black composition, the new interior is a pleasant place to spend time. The quality of the materials seems to be at least on par with the best in the main competitor Explorer.
There are just a few questionable refinements, like a center console panel that wraps around the air conditioning. It's hard, hollow, and grain-free, which makes it look cheap. Parts like this won't disappoint on the XLT, which costs less than $40,000. But in our test vehicle it was a little harder to swallow,
At least the ST is well-equipped for its base price of $55,835, including things like self-parking, wireless chargers, a navigation system, automatic lights, rain-sensing wipers, heated steering wheel and front and secondary seats, front seat ventilation . , remote start, Wi-Fi hotspot and leather seats.
The front seat massager, 10.1-inch center display and 14-speaker sound system add $995. The portrait infotainment screen is serviceable, though proudly positioned on the dash it bears a striking resemblance to the mysterious black monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey. For an additional $1,695, our test vehicle came with a two-piece sunroof.
That's great for brightening up the interior, but it takes up more than two inches of valuable space for second-row passengers, making it almost unbearable for adults to sit there. In fact, the headroom of the third row with sunroof is slightly higher than the second row, which is great, except that Ford has achieved this in part by slamming the lower bolsters into the floor and putting passengers in a kneeling position that they hated it. Cargo space is ample, midway between the small Mazda CX-9 and the large Chevrolet Traverse.
Perhaps the Platinum model, with most of the ST's power and no clear sporting intentions, would appeal to us more. We may have matured in the three decades since Typhoon's release, but we appreciate Explorer's base package more than its performance-enhancing integration.

Interior do Ford Explorer 2024
The 2024 Ford Explorer is presented with an elegant and very attractive interior design as you will find subtle curves with the location of everything that matters. The two-tone color gradation in the interior has a calming effect.
From the beautiful steering wheel to the smooth side curves, everything feels friendly. But after a close up, the story changes a little, as the quality of the material is not best in class.
We found it average, as most surfaces are made of cheap plastic. It seats seven and the seats are totally comfortable, which is good. Next comes the dashboard design, which is good but not the best as other vehicles in its class offer a more attractive look.
The 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system is fantastic and supports a wide range of functions. There's an optional 10.1-inch vertical touchscreen that might be nice at first, but causes problems
The cabin is very spacious, but the comfort level changes when you move from front to back. The front and second row seats have plenty of room, but the second row seats are less flexible than the first row seats.
The third row seats are a decent size. The Ford Explorer is equipped with infotainment features such as a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium sound system, Ford SYNC 3 and Bluetooth wireless phone connectivity. For convenience, features such as automatic dimming of day/night mirrors and voice activation are offered as standard.
In comparison, the Hyundai Palisade beats the others thanks to the larger cabin. The Explorer only has room for 7 people, but the cabin is spacious with the most third-row space in its class.
Cargo capacity of 18.2 cubic feet is decent and quickly increases to 83.9 cubic feet with the second and third row seats folded down. Key infotainment features include:

The 2024 Ford Explorer received its final redesign last year. There is no doubt that she looks amazing as always. So don't expect too much from the upcoming model. We think most will look the same, save for the new 'Timberline' finish, which is made for off-road use only or at least as stylish as the off-road version. The front and rear have been updated with a stronger look.

However, the current design is more than enough to attract the public's attention with stylish and beautiful headlamps with an attractive grille of perfect size. The body is certainly solid, but it also feels consistent from front to back.
In terms of size, it is the longest and widest in its class with excellent ground clearance, making it ideal for all types of terrain. Below are some of its main features.

Motor Ford Explorer 2024
We speculate that the 2024 Ford Explorer will have an engine configuration that will likely be the same as last year's model. For the base model, you get a 2.3-liter in-line 4-cylinder turbo engine that produces 300 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 310 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm.
If you're still not satisfied with the power, there's a 365 hp 3.0 V6 engine that's sure to quench your thirst for power. A hybrid version is also available with a combination of a 3.3 liter V6 engine and an electric motor, which together produce 318 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 322 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm.
All three engines are mated to a best-in-class ten-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard on the Explorer, but buyers can opt for four-wheel drive if they prefer.
On the road, these three engines impress with their unique characteristics. But we can't ignore the four-cylinder turbo engine's praise. This Underdog is amazing and seems to be the best deal on the entire lineup.
In terms of acceleration, the four-cylinder turbo engine accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds. The V6 engine goes from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 5 seconds.
The 2024 Ford Explorer in its basic configuration can cover the quarter mile in 13.8 seconds. These numbers are impressive and clearly show how impressive the performance is. The roar of the engine is mesmerizing and the driving experience it offers is second to none.
Despite being a large vehicle, the Explorer is agile on straights and curves. Ford's decision to use rear-wheel drive is evident here, as it provides a more controlled and comfortable driving experience.
Even when carrying heavy loads, rear-wheel drive provides a better experience than front-wheel drive. But a small drawback is that small bumps are easy to feel, especially if you choose larger wheels.
Compared to its competitors, Explorer, despite having a four-cylinder engine, is ahead of its competitors. The destruction of a four-cylinder six-cylinder engine is a rare sight.
But the Explorer did it with a flourish because it was the fastest in its class, followed by the Kia Telluride. The Honda Pilot trails behind with 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of power and torque.

2024 Ford Explorer MPG
Typically, large vehicles are bad in terms of fuel consumption as they are often equipped with energy-hungry engines. But when it comes to the Ford Explorer, the story is a little different.
Since the engine is the same as last year, we expect the Explorer to have the same mileage. This SUV has a range of 21 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway and 24 mpg combined.
Again, compared to competitors, the Ford Explorer outperforms the others by having better mileage, but the fuel tank capacity is smaller than the others.
But somehow it offers a great range, second only to what the Honda Pilot has to offer. Honda's 19.5-gallon fuel tank gives it a range of 390 miles in the city, 526.5 miles on the highway, and 448.5 miles combined.
